The Godfather is crime drama based on the novel by Mario Puzo of the same name. A cult classic directed by Francis Ford Coppola it's a three hour long gangster film set in late 1940's which takes us to the dark world of gangsters and the struggle for power between five Italian-American mafia families who head organised crime in America.

The movie traces the journey of 'Michael Corleone' played by Al Pacino from being a war hero to a ruthless mafia Don and has legendary actor Marlon Brando play 'Vito Corleone' father to Michael and head to one of the five mafia families. The story shows the succession of Micheal to his father crime business and his own moral downfall by eliminating all his enemies and establishing his empire.

Godfather is a piece of cinematic brilliance and the movie boasts of best dialogues mouthed in the history of cinema and has dark feel to it that captures essence of crime perfectly.

Marlon Brando gets into the skin of character by stuffing cotton in his jaw just to look stubborn and Al Pacino gives one of the finest performance of his career and his transition to an evil Don is convincing. Overall Coppola was successful in extracting excellent performance from all the actors.

The film had been nominated for 11 Academy Awards out of which it won three and is often regarded as one of the greatest movie ever made in the history of Hollywood.
